Vladivostok customs officers at the sea checkpoint of Vladivostok (fishing port) discovered 100 radiation-hazardous cargo with excess of the allowable rate. The source of radiation was inside ferrous scrap, planned for export. It is reported by the press service of the Far Eastern Customs Administration.
According to the head of the customs control unit for fissile and radioactive materials of the Vladivostok Customs, Maxim Shesternin, the radiation-hazardous object was a submersible pump made of metal. The level of gamma radiation on its surface was over 10 μSv / h. In addition, contamination with beta-active radionuclides was detected on the surface of the object.
Vladivostok customs officers promptly handed over information about the find to the civil defense and emergency departments of the sea checkpoint Vladivostok (fishing port) and to the Rospotrebnadzor Department for the Primorsky Krai.
As a result of operational interaction, the identified item was localized and isolated by a specialized company for further disposal.
